About Me

Toronto Family and Divorce Lawyer

Richard received his Bachelor of Arts degree from York University in 1991 with a major in psychology.  After graduating with honours, Richard went on to get his Masters in Social Work at the University of Toronto where he was an award winning student.  Upon completing his Masters degree in 1994, Richard studied law at the University of Windsor.  While at the University of Windsor Richard spent the summer of 1995 as an assessment officer for Ontario Legal Aid in Brampton, and the summer of 1996 as an Advocacy Intern for the League for Human Rights in Toronto.

In 1997 he received his Bachelor of Laws ( LL.B.) degree and went on to the Graduate Studies of Law program at the University of Ottawa.  During this time, Richard was a research scholarship recipient at the faculty of Law, University of Ottawa. Upon graduating with his Masters of Law ( LL.M); the focus of which was Family Law in 1998, Richard articled in Toronto with the Ministry of the Attorney General Family Responsibility Office, focusing on family support enforcement issues.

In early 2000, Richard was called to the Ontario bar and chose to remain with Ministry of the Attorney General Family Responsibility Office, attending court on behalf of the Director, providing legal opinions, as well as supervising panel lawyers.

In order to expand the scope of his experience, Richard spent a year as an associate with MacDonald and Partners, a boutique family law firm.  After which, Richard took an associate position at Blaney McMurtry LLP in Toronto, where he specialized in Family Law.  After several successful years with Blaney McMurtry LLP, in late 2005, Richard moved on to create his own firm Richard Teicher, Barrister & Solicitor located in North York.

Richard has practiced solely in the area of family law for 12 years. His education in psychology, masters in social work, as well as his graduate degree in law brings not only a wealth of knowledge, but sensitivity to the many emotional issues surrounding the breakdown of a marriage.

By keeping his practice small and focused exclusively on  Family Law, Richard is able to provide his clients with superior caliber legal representation, flexibility and personalized service, without the bureaucracy and high fees of a larger firm.
